Areas of Expertise
Lisa teaches women in construction trades how to live a resilient life. After 15 years in the construction industry and 7 years out in the field she figured out how to break free from the yo-yo dieting and constant aches and pains that come with grueling construction work. Understanding the difficulties of finding healthy, tasty foods that can be eaten out on jobsites, and finding the energy to cook and take care of family after a long day at work, she now coaches other women in construction trades to navigate back to their healthy, energetic lifestyle. She lives in the coastal area of Delaware.
My Story
Overcoming Stress-Lack of Energy-Poor Mobility
Seven years ago I decided to transition from an office position to a field position. I went from being in an environment where there was heat and AC, a fairly clean restroom, and a kitchen area with a refrigerator, microwave, and toaster oven, to spending a lot of time in my car traveling from jobsite to jobsite. It didn’t take long before eating sandwiches and chips or pretzels got old. I did not know what to take for lunch since I had no way to heat anything up. So instead, I would pick up fast food for lunch as I was traveling from one jobsite to another or I would pick up coffee and a donut when I would stop to use a restroom at a convenience store. Before I realized what was happening, I had gained 20 pounds. Even worse than the weight gain, I had no energy or drive and I was having a very difficult time maneuvering around on the uneven terrain of jobsites and getting up and down the steps with my equipment.
One day I was sent to a community of townhomes that had four stories where I had to measure for countertops in six homes. By the time I had gotten to the third house, I could not even carry my equipment up to the second floor. I had to carry my equipment piece by piece up each flight of steps. I spent way too much time at that jobsite and I was completely exhausted by the time I was done. As I was driving back home all I could think was, “How could I have let myself get this bad?” I decided right then and there that I needed to make a lifestyle change.
As I began to research how to best take care of my body, I discovered that I actually COULD fuel my body well while working out in the field. I also learned that being in good health was about more than just diet. I had to take on a holistic mind, body, soul approach. It is amazing how much taking a holistic approach has changed my life! I still enjoy delicious food, I have more energy than ever, and I have no more pain when maneuvering around jobsites. My mobility has increased and I now move through life with ease!
